Discoloration of the Teeth
Teeth discoloration can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Some of the more common causes of teeth discoloration are medications, coffee, tea or cigarettes. People who drink significant amounts of cola soft drinks can experience similar staining.
Aside from staining, there are other factors that can affect the color of an individual’s teeth. Genetics can play a role. Some people have naturally brighter enamel than others. Disease can also be a factor and certain medications can cause a discoloration of the teeth. If you suspect that there is an underlying medical cause for your teeth discoloration, be sure to inform us.
Teeth Whitening is performed for patients who desire a brighter smile. Teeth whitening can be performed to reduce discoloration and staining, or simply to provide you with whiter, brighter teeth. This is very easy and you can see immediate results with this procedure!
First, we will use our Zoom One-Hour Teeth Whitening using the Zoom Advanced Power Light. For quick teeth whitening, in one hour, right in our office, you can take advantage of our Zoom One-Hour whitening system which will whiten yellow teeth up to 6 to 8 shades lighter in an hour and also eliminates most coffee, tea and tobacco stains
In addition, we will give you either our Day White or Night White Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kit with take-home Gel and Custom-Made Teeth Whitening Trays:
The Day White or Night White Teeth Whitening Gel (from Philips) is dispensed into Custom-made Teeth Whitening trays that we prepare for you (from molds we make of your teeth), and is worn for about 45 minutes for 7-10 days to obtain great results. The Teeth Whitening trays last for years, and are also used to maintain the new shade periodically. The maintenance of the new shade is done by wearing the gel-filled trays for one 30 minute period every 2 months.
Frequently Asked Questions about Teeth Whitening
With so many different whitening products on the market, it’s easy to get confused. So here are the facts you need to know before you commit.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Clinical studies have shown that whitening your teeth with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums and does not cause any weakening or damage to the teeth, either chemically, physically or structurally.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effect is tooth and gum sensitivity. Your dentist is your best resource to ensure that you are a good candidate for whitening and that you are using the right concentration of whitening formula. Philips Zoom at-home teeth whitening products have two mild desensitizing agents, potassium nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), to minimize tooth sensitivity.
What’s the difference between OTC whitening solutions and Philips Zoom?
Over-the-counter whitening products are not customized to your needs. With Philips Zoom teeth whitening, the whitening process is tailored to your needs by your dentist, with custom-fitted trays for at-home treatments or just the right light intensity and duration in the dentist’s office.
How long will my Zoom teeth whitening results last?
Whitening treatments help to reduce existing stains, but through consumption of coffee, soft drinks or just through natural aging, your teeth may eventually become discolored again. Maintenance whitening can help combat recurring discoloration. Only Philips Zoom at-home whitening products include ACP, which has been shown to help reduce whitening fade-back.
What causes teeth to discolor?
There are many causes to tooth discoloration. Some of the most common include the consumption highly colored foods and drinks (berries, coffee, tea, red wine). Some medications, aging, smoking and trauma can also cause teeth discoloration.
How long does it take?
With Philips Zoom, your teeth will be visibly whiter in one day. With Zoom in-office, you will achieve up to eight shades whiter in 45 minutes. With Zoom at-home, when used as instructed, you will achieve the same great results in one-two weeks, depending on concentration of formulation and wear time you select.
