Cosmetic Tooth Bonding

At Pearl Dental Arts, we produce amazing improvements with cosmetic tooth bonding, creating smiles, changing lives.

Porcelain veneers are undoubtedly the method of choice for achieving cosmetic improvements of teeth and smile makeovers. However, there are situations in which direct bonding, done in the office, using composite resin, may be the treatment of choice.

From the patient’s point of view, the most common reason for choosing composite resin bonding over porcelain veneers is the cost factor. Cosmetic smile makeovers of the upper and lower teeth can usually  involve the placement of 16-20 porcelain veneers. In such cases, choosing composite teeth bonding instead of porcelain veneers  can result in a difference of a few thousand dollars. The additional work and time involved in placing porcelain veneers, the huge laboratory costs for fabricating the veneers and the long term results of the porcelain veneers naturally justify the higher fees. However, in the real world, some patients have to settle for direct composite bonding rather than not get any cosmetic improvements at all as they just cannot afford the porcelain.

In addition, the cosmetic improvements with direct bonding are instant, and that is a great plus for somebody who needs an immediate “fix” before an important interview or a graduation or a wedding.   Also, some patients have to move at short notice, and cannot wait for a second visit for the veneers to be back from the lab.

Another reason why a patient may prefer direct bonding is that there is often less reshaping and reduction of the natural teeth for the dentist to bond resins on teeth compared to placing porcelain veneers.

If a person has chips, cracks or discolorations on teeth, if there are spaces between the teeth, if they are irregularly placed, these can be corrected by bonding tooth colored material (that we call composite resins) on the teeth in thin layers. All this is done in one visit, right in the office, without the dentist having to take molds and send them to the dental laboratory and wait a few weeks for the final results. With bonding, after the dentist and patient are satisfied with the improvements to the smile, the bonding is polished to a high gloss and finish, and viola!  its all done in just one visit.

At Pearl Dental Arts, we have been offering cosmetic tooth bonding for almost 30 years and patients are pleasantly surprised with what can be achieved. We use Venus Diamond brand of composite resin for the bonding, and have managed to get very good long-term success.
