Denture repairs and denture relines are offered at Pearl Dental Arts at our offices in Newtown and Levittown in Bucks County, PA. And often, these can be done the same day, even while you wait.
Denture repairs become necessary if:
(1) the denture (Full denture or Partial denture) cracks; it can be in two or more pieces or a portion of the denture may be broken. The most common is a fracture of a complete upper or lower denture right in the middle
(2) one or more teeth may have fallen off the denture
(3) a new tooth may need to be added to an existing partial denture following loss of a tooth
(4) a clasp ( that's the clips holding up the partial) may break.
Denture relines are done to improve the fit of old dentures. When dentures are worn for a few years, the gums change and the jaw bone underneath changes and the fit of the denture is not as good as when they were first made. Spaces develop between the gums and the denture, and the suction of the denture decreases and the fit of the denture is very bad. To compensate for this, one has to use a lot of denture adhesive (paste or powder) to improve the denture fit and regain some confidence when talking and chewing. Denture wearers really hate all the gooey, detestable denture adhesive sticking to the gums.
So, instead, a denture reline can be done. A new lining is added to the denture to fill up any voids and spaces between the gums and the denture, which greatly improves the suction and the fit. The denture wearer can usually say goodbye to all denture adhesive pastes and powders.
Denture relines can either be done right in our office while you wait, or we can send the denture to the laboratory for the reline.
We also place dental implants so the new dentures can be stable and secure in chewing and you can smile and talk with confidence. The dentures made over implants can be either (1) the removable, snap-on type, which can be taken out and put back in easily by the patient or (2) the fixed kind, which cannot be removed by the patient as they are securely connected to the implants.
