Implant Supported Fixed Bridges

Implant Supported Fixed Bridge Replaces Missing Teeth And Restores Function

If you have lost all of your teeth in one or both jaws, or if loss of all the teeth in a jaw is unavoidable, you are faced with the option of replacing them with a removable denture or getting implants. If you choose implants, you can have a denture that snaps onto the implants, or you can have a fixed bridge that is screwed onto the implants.

A full denture, especially in the lower jaw, has a tendency to move around and lift up when eating and talking. A person wearing a full denture does not feel confident out of fear that the denture would move or fall out at the most inappropriate moment. To gain some stability and retention with the denture, huge amounts of denture adhesives are used, but then the adhesive sticks to the gums and is very unpleasant. There is often a typical denture smell in the mouth.

A very precious alternative you have if you have lost all your teeth is to get dental implants

On the implants, you can have either:

If you choose a Snap-On Denture, connectors are placed on to the implants as well as in the dentures. With the aid of these connectors, the denture can snap on firmly and securely onto the implants. You can take out the snap-on denture whenever you want to, just by a good tug or push onto the denture. Typically, in the lower jaw, two to four implants are placed to support a snap-on denture. In the upper jaw, four implants are usually placed to support a snap-on denture. In the upper jaw, the snap-on denture does not need the full palate to be covered by the denture: the denture is horse-shoe shaped, leaving the palate free so you can feel your palate, food tastes normal and speech is normal. The snap-on denture does have a very slight movement in the mouth, as it is not screwed onto the implants.

You can also have a Fixed Bridge that is screwed onto connectors placed onto the implants. This fixed bridge is not removable by you, but we can very easily remove it. In fact, it is recommended that it be taken out periodically by us for cleaning and maintaining good tissue health.

The screw-on, fixed bridge is usually supported by 4-6 implants in each jaw. The bridge can either be of acrylic, fortified with a titanium bar, or it can be made of zirconia, which is the hardest and strongest material used in dentistry today.

At Pearl Dental Arts, we place implants that support crowns and bridges to replace missing teeth, implants for snap-on dentures and implants for fixed bridges.
